Martin Down – National Nature Reserve

Details

Martin Down is an extensive area of chalk grassland and scrub. It’s an area of national importance not only for its wealth of classic downland wildlife but also its archaeological features.

Extending for 350 hectares, Martin Down is a great place to see wildflowers, butterflies and rare birds.

The great Bokerly Dyke runs along one side which can be seen using the Cranborne Chase Time Traveller App as well as remnants of  military rifle ranges.

Jointly managed by Hampshire County Council and Natural England there are great cycle and riding routes. There are parking areas in Martin and just off the A354 north of the Sixpenny Handley roundabout which makes it any easy place to explore.
