Forestry & Woodland

With 7,588 hectares of woodland, Cranborne Chase National Landscape has been identified as an Ancient Woodland Priority Area by the Forestry Commission.

Ancient woodlands and trees represent a living cultural heritage, a natural equivalent to our great churches and castles. They are also one of our richest wildlife habitats and are highly valued by people as places of tranquillity and inspiration.

The Forestry Commission are seeking to protect and enhance the ancient and native woodlands of the South West and increase the area of native woodland.

Right Tree, Right Place on Cranborne Chase

The trees that we plant today will become part of this protected landscape for generations to come. It is therefore essential that we get it right, taking into account the character of the landscape.

If you are thinking of undertaking planting, whether a single tree, or a larger plantation scheme, there is plenty of information on our ‘Right Tree, Right Place’ guidance.
