Details
Coombe Bissett Down offers some lovely circular walks and is best seen in late May, early June when the wildflowers are in bloom.
There are medieval terraces across the coombe’s steep slopes called ‘strip lynchets’. The Wildlife Trust has restored some of the field sown for crops to downland for the benefit of birds and insect life.
The reserve is alive with wildlife and wildflowers from spring through summer. The best time for flowers is late late May into early June.
Skylarks, yellowhammer and goldfinch can be seen (and heard!) at the reserve and during the summer months you can also see a fantastic display of butterflies such as Adonis blue, chalkhill blue and dingy skipper.
Please note that unfortunately the reserve isn’t suitable for pushchairs of wheelchairs. Dogs on leads are welcome.
There is limited parking in the reserve car park. If the car park is full please do not park along the Pennings Drove verge, which prevents access for farm machinery and emergency services.
