Dark Sky Friendly Awards – Marshwood Farm Camping near Dinton

Marshwood Farm Camping presented with Dark Sky Award plaque

We were delighted to award Marshwood Farm Camping with our five-star Dark Sky Friendly Accreditation in 2022. Catherine Lockyer was presented with the award by Steve Tonkin, the Dark Skies Advisor for Cranborne Chase National Landscape. They are the first tourism business to attain this accreditation.

The campsite, which offers traditional camping alongside fully furnished bell tents and shepherd’s huts, has already had campers book specifically for what the night-time environment has to offer. Catherine attended our Dark Sky Custodian training sessions as part of our Chase & Chalke Landscape Partnership Scheme, where she learned about the importance of controlling outdoor light at night.

Working with Steve, a bright bulkhead-type light which was shining light upwards was replaced with a motion-sensor operated downlight, that subtly lights only the required area. There are binoculars and stargazing information for campers also available.

Full details of those who have been awarded Dark Sky Accreditation will be shared over the coming months on our website and in other publicity information. Get in touch with Steve to find out more about how you can join them!
